Craigslist Saves

Just when I thought I had nothing to blog about today because I ran out of time, I found it. By "it", I mean a fabulous antique credenza on Craigslist. The best part was that it was in Astoria (not 2 hours away in Portland) so I picked it up today! Drum roll please....
A beautiful antique credenza. I love it. Yeah its a little warped and needs a lot of love but I know I am the girl for this job. I picked it up before I had to go in for for parent teacher conferences tonight. I was so giddy that nothing was going to break my spirit. I am sure the parents thought I was on crack but I was too excited about my new find. The best part is, it only cost me $30.  Instead of focusing in on my parents tonight  my mind was racing with the different colors I could use to finish the piece. I also want to find some new hardware for it. If you know of any neat knob sellers please let me know. Take a look at this detailing.

In my mind I have also been imagining this pieces history. I live in the oldest town west of the Mississippi, which leaves way for my new find to be really old. It came out of an old Finnish fisherman's style basement. Who knows, all I know is that its been around the block fo sho.

So with that said... Let's take a look at some of the ideas I have for finishing the hutch...

I really like the color of this green one from Knack Studios. The white knobs look killer too.

I also really like this yellow and white one from Design Sponge. If you have never been to Design Sponge you NEED to go. It's an awesome site of before and after masterpieces.

My other thought was to finish it in white. Cole is getting tired of all the white and I read a great quote the other day(I can't find its source), "Color is like the soul of your home." With that said I really don't want a soulless house. So let me throw this out to my readers. How should I finish this baby? I know I want color and cool hardware. Help me out! Alright time for this girl to go to bed.

  1. NO MORE WHITE! Take a leap. The green would look awesome with your new pillows, even if you put it somewhere else. Use that bright yellow and green as your theme colors and rock it out (they're so you...)

    1. Annie I think I might take the leap. Lucy and I went to Home Depot today and I found an awesome color green from Behr paint. I will have to share it soon.

  2. What if you just strip it and then re stain it? good ol' natural wood?

    1. I have thought of just stripping it and leaving bare wood. I think I want to paint it cause I need to have something in this room pop. The coffee table however may stay all natural.

  3. Are you putting it in your sitting area? I say go with the green with some cool white hardware on the front. That way you get a little white, but you also get that pop of color you're looking for. Maybe something from Vintage Hardware like you did on Lucy's dresser??? The green would go great with the new pillows, like Annie said. Can't wait to see the end result!

    1. Tina, I think I am going to replace the wine rack for the hutch. It seems like a good fit. But then I dont know where I will put the wine rack. Maybe I will paint that too! I also love the idea of white hardware on the front. I went to Vintage Hardware yesterday and I didn't find any white hardware but I did find some bold yellow peices. I took a picture of them so I can show you later to see what you think.
